I think Skywalking is out of print anyway ;-)

Did anyone ever get to see that VHS release of some of Scorcese's student material?

    Now that is also inspiring!

It seems there's a whole industry that revolves around 'inspiring' ppl :-)

Ive read Rebal Without A Crew ive also read ROADRACERS The Making Of A Degenerate Hot Rod Flick both books are a good read and gave me an insight in to thing i have not yet experianced my self. I also own the El Mariachie/Desperado dvd ive listend to the commentries and they to were verry intresting.I consider my self a fan of Robert Rodriguez its just annoying when people use him to give them selves an ego boost. He's done it good for him. Now you do it. And as for all the people who slag hollywood ok not all the movies that come out of there a great but I bet if anyone in hear was offerd an Armageddon or aleathal weopon 5 they would jump a the chance.

PS El Mariachie was his first feature he'd only made shorts untill then e.g Austin stories and bedhead which in my opinion is his best film

Chance1234, THAT'S THE POINT! He sold the pile of crap movie didn't he? One week he had nothing and the week after he had near enough a million quid. I'm NOT saying I'm going to do that but I'm going to give it a bloody good go smile Besides, my movie is going to be made with more tender loving care then El Mariachi ever was.

I hate watching El Mariachi because it sucks (as an overall film). I've only ever really watched right the way through once but I do watch the action scenes over and over for inspiration.

Why would anybody want to make a film just for the money? It's a fucking dream, anyway. Before you start raking in the millions, you'll most likely be sitting with your film in your hands all by yourself, working full time at some office during the day and killing yourself trying to actually finish it by night. There are just so many films being made by people just like you RIGHT NOW....what makes you think that your film will be held in acclaim above all others? You know, some of us filmmakers actually CARE about the material we work with, and it honestly shows through in the work.....in fact, some of us even care about making a good film FOR OURSELVES, even if it doesn't make any money. I think that's important. Those are the best films for me.

It's not about money. It's about the work. You'll never understand that, and that's why you'll never last. Before you become rich and famous (if ever), you'll be spending a lot of lonely nights with only yourself to believe in you. Starving. Can you handle that? Based on some posts here, I seriously doubt it. You are too obsessed with yourself to let yourself go starving for a while.

    I pity your aspirations.

Fact of the matter is whether you hate RR or love him he did what I hope all of the people on this board asapire to do. He made a movie and made a name for himself. I envy him because he was able to take nothing and make something out of it. Either you hate El mariachi or love it. It is still a film which was made, which opened doors for him to make more films. I wish my first movie does for me what El mariachi did for him, will it, probably not, but every little thing helps. In all reality he was what we are now, and he succeeded, you have to respect him for that.
